Another Wisconsin Cow Sets New Milk Production Record
USAgNet - 10/19/2017

For the second time this year, a Wisconsin cow knocked out another Wisconsin cow as the all-time record holder for milk production in a single year. The Holstein Association USA announced that 'Selz-Pralle Aftershock 3918,' a six-year-old bred and owned by Scott Pralle and his wife, Pam Selz-Pralle of Humbird, set a 365-day lactation record of 78,170 pounds of milk, with 3,094 pounds of fat and 2,393 pounds of protein.

That tops the previous record of 77,480 pounds of milk, set back in January by 'Ever-Green-View My Gold-ET,' owned by the Kestell family of Waldo. My Gold beat out 'Bur-Wall Buckeye Gigi' in 2016, which is a cow owned by Bur-Wall Holsteins of Brooklyn that tragically died in a barn fire last month.

"Despite her huge production accomplishments, 3918 is a cow that does not like to be bothered," Pam told Wisconsin Ag Connection. "She's the kind of animal that you would typically find in the middle of the barn not attracting a lot of attention. She's perfectly content staying in her free stall, but she definitely milks like crazy."

Sired by MS Atlees Sht Aftershock-ET, 3918 was classified VG-88. She also has two daughters in the milking herd and is bred to calve this December.

The Pralles say their new record-setting Holstein descends from a cow they purchased 20 years ago when Selz-Pralle Dairy expanded their operation to 425 cows.

The farm's Rolling Herd Average is 30,917 pounds of milk, 1,219 pounds of fat, and 969 pounds of protein.
