Green Fair Renovations Winners Announced
Michigan Ag Connection - 02/05/2016

The Michigan Soybean Promotion Committee (MSPC) announced the winners of the Green Fair Renovations program are Midland County Fair and Monroe County Fair.

Seeing the need to help county fairs, Michigan soybean farmers initially began a Green Fair Project in 2000. The program reimburses 50% of costs for soybean products used at fairs, up to $5,000.

"It is the best bang for our buck in reaching consumers," says Kathy Maurer, financial and international marketing director. "Over the past five years we have reached more than 6 million consumers. The fairs benefit and the farmers' benefit, so it is a win win for everyone."

The Green Fair Renovations is an extension of the Green Fair Project after seeing the needs of fairs to have larger capital improvement projects. Green Fair Renovations is a competitive 50% reimbursement up to $20,000 for projects including soy-based products in their renovations.

The Midland County Fair will be using the Renovations program to refurbish a fair building using soy spray foams for insulation, soy-based paneling and soy paint.

"The Midland Fairgrounds is excited to expand the use of soy products on the grounds," says Trish Steele, manager. "The building renovation will help us better utilize the building in our community and extend the life of the structure."

Monroe County Fair will be using the Renovations program to repaint the stock area at their fair with soy-based paint.

"The Monroe County Fair Association is excited to be a grant recipient," says Warren Siebarth, manager. "And, we look forward to continuing to make our environment greener!"
