Michigan March 1 Grain Stocks Down from 2019

On March 1, 2020, Michigan corn stocks totaled 133 million bushels, 24 percent lower than a year earlier, according to Marlo Johnson, director, USDA NASS, Great Lakes Regional Office. About 56 percent of the corn was stored on farms. The second quarter disappearance was 68.1 million bushels, compared with 60.8 million bushels a year earlier.

Soybean stocks on March 1, 2020, were 53.8 million bushels. That was 21 percent lower than stocks a year earlier. The second quarter indicated disappearance was 15.7 million bushels. Farm stocks of soybeans were 18.0 million bushels.

Wheat stocks on March 1, 2020, were 30.3 million bushels, 26 percent below a year ago. Approximately 97 percent of wheat stocks were in commercial storage. Third quarter indicated disappearance was 11.0 million bushels, 17 percent of supply.

Corn stored in all positions on March 1, 2020, totaled 7.95 billion bushels, down 8 percent from March 1, 2019. Of the total stocks, 4.45 billion bushels were stored on farms, down 13 percent from a year earlier. Off-farm stocks, 3.50 billion bushels, were up slightly from a year ago. The December 2019 - February 2020 indicated disappearance was 3.45 billion bushels, compared with 3.32 billion bushels during the same period last year.

Soybeans stored in all positions on March 1, 2020, totaled 2.25 billion bushels, down 17 percent from March 1, 2019. Soybean stocks stored on farms were estimated at 1.01 billion bushels, down 20 percent from a year ago. Off-farm stocks, 1.24 billion bushels, were down 15 percent from last March. Indicated disappearance for the December 2019 - February 2020 quarter totaled 1.00 billion bushels, down 1 percent from the same period a year earlier.

All wheat stored in all positions on March 1, 2020, totaled 1.41 billion bushels, down 11 percent from a year ago. On-farm stocks were estimated at 339 million bushels, down 8 percent from last March. Off-farm stocks, 1.07 billion bushels, were down 12 percent from a year ago. The December 2019 - February 2020 indicated disappearance was 428 million bushels, 3 percent above the same period a year earlier.
