The Michigan Department of Natural Resources has approved five Aquatic Habitat Grant Program projects totaling $1.25 million. Twelve applications, requesting $3.26 million, were received and evaluated. This is the fourth round of projects since the program began in 2014. It is funded annually by a portion of fishing and hunting license sales.

The list below highlights the five projects that received funding in this round.

- Huron Pines, Milligan Creek Restoration, Cheboygan -- $370,200

- Conservation Resource Alliance, Restoring Sanborn Creek, a Headwater Stream of the Pere Marquette River, Lake -- $95,000

- Ingham County Drain Commission, Red Cedar River Watershed Protection & Restoration, Ingham -- $427,178

- City of Rochester Hills, Avon Creek Phase IV Habitat Restoration, Oakland -- $100,000

- Kent County Parks and Recreation, Mill Creek Restoration - Dwight Lydell Park Phase One, Kent -- $257,622

The Aquatic Habitat Grant Program funds projects that:

- Protect intact and rehabilitate degraded aquatic resources throughout the state.

- Develop self-sustaining aquatic communities that provide for continuing recreational opportunities and natural resource-based economies.

- Develop strong relationships and partnerships.

"These recipients will use these grant funds to enhance a broad range of aquatic habitat, the foundation for Michigan's world-class fishing opportunities," said Kevin Wehrly, and inland research biologist with the DNR's Fisheries Division. "We're excited for these projects to get under way and to see what a difference they make."
